Course Maintenance May 2017

It is not often that I ask for rain, but it has been most welcome over the past few days.
The continuing dry and rather cool weather has left us a few weeks behind where we would like to be, with scaring from our Spring maintenance still evident and no great consistency in growth on the greens.
I have also had to GUR certain areas of the course that have not recovered from winter traffic.
I am confident, now that we have more seasonal norm temperatures our GGD( growth degree days) days will increase and we will see the finer grasses developing.
We all know and are aware that the poa grasses start seeding at this time of year, nature being a wonderful thing, but with regular grooming, verti cutting, pencil tining and top dressing the greens surfaces will smooth out and be more consistent over the next few weeks.
We will continue as part of our course maintenance schedule, tine and dress throughout the season both greens and collars.
We have carried out extensive bunker maintenance, with edging, de stoning and replenishing with new sand to a depth of 4 inches. It is a great help and again gives everyone an opportunity to play a good bunker shot if they are raked. Please rake back to front not just towards the back of the bunkers.
We aim to utilize the alternative tees on the 2nd and 4th at certain times through the year, just to add a little difference to tee shots.
There being no course improvements outside of the program of works for the summer, my team look forward to presenting once again a quality product for all to play and enjoy.
